Newport City Elementary School Principal’s Report

Dear NCES School Community,

I’m very excited to have the opportunity to work with the Newport City Elementary School community as the new principal. I look forward to making NCES my new home away from home!  Because I am a local girl, I plan to stay here for longer than a year!

I am coming to Newport City after spending 16 years as a middle school teacher and principal at Brownington Central School.  This is my 25th year in education in a variety of roles, including school secretary, paraeducator, classroom teacher, educational consultant, and principal.  Personally, my husband and I raised six children who are all in their 20s and 30s and provided care for 53 foster children.  We are the proud grandparents of five grandchildren ranging in age from 7 years to 6 months.  Children have been at the center of my world for a very long time, and I firmly believe in the power of education to help students reach their potential.

I also know that the heart of work in schools is developing relationships with everyone involved:  school staff, parents, and most importantly, students.  In order for students to care about what you know, they have to know that you care.  It is my goal to know each student and to be in classrooms and visible presence around the school on a daily basis.

I look forward to meeting each of you and to working with your children. If you have questions or concerns either now or at any time in the future, please do not hesitate to reach out.  I am available by phone or email:  (802) 334-2455 x 4144 or elaine.collins@ncsuvt.org.

Sincerely,

Elaine Collins
