Principal’s Letter 

Welcome to the Newport City Elementary School website and to another exciting year at NCES. It is my honor to be back for my fourth year as the Principal of NCES and 8 th year as an administrator at the school. The 2025-2026 school year will be my 21 st as a professional educator. In addition to being a school administrator, if have experiences as a middle grade social studies teacher and a special educator working with students from kindergarten through 8 th grade. This school year we will be continuing our implementation of CKLA and Amplify ELA, new English/language arts programs that we started last year. With these programs we are working to promote improved consistency and rigor for our students’ literacy experience from grades K- 6. The good work of last year will give us lots of momentum as we enter year 2 of these programs. Another area of continued focus for the upcoming year will be on the practices of Responsive Classroom. This work will lead to an increased focus on building relationships and pre-teaching expectations to our students. We will also be implementing the Second Step program with consistency this year across K-6 to help with social skills and creating a positive learning community. I am proud to be at NCES. This is home to a great community of teachers and staff who care deeply for our young people. It’s an honor to work with so many talented and dedicated individuals. It’s also a privilege to work with the students and families of Newport City. I will continue to do my best to lead our school in a manner we can all be proud of. I am privileged to again share my leadership responsibilities with Assistant Principal Dawnna Chase. Together we aim to lead in a manner that is accurately reflected in our mission statement: “The mission of Newport City Elementary School is to educate the whole student to become a caring, productive participant of the community.” With that as our guiding light, NCES will continue to be a place to be proud of.
